Overview
In 1919 Conrad Hilton bought The Mobley, a hotel in Cisco, Texas and that was the beginning of the famous Hilton hotels. Over the next few years he continued to buy hotels and in 1925, Conrad opened the first hotel with the Hilton name, a high-rise in Dallas, Texas. He then expanded the hotel to New York City, becoming the first coast-to-coast hotel in the United States. The Hilton Corporation was established in 1946. In 1949, Hilton International was born in Puerto Rico. Later, in 1955, Hilton created the first central reservation office (HILCRON) and in the same year built the first modern hotel in post-WWII Europe in Istanbul. After many successful years as a businessman, Conrad Hilton passed away in 1979. Following his death Conrad hotels, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, and Homewood Suites were established.
